When in a HP scrubber the vapors from the synthesis are fully condensed the passivation air in combination with hydrogen and other flammables can form a gas mixture that may lead to deflagration.

A large scale revamp case study in which the capacity of a traditional conventional total recycle plant comprising two identical units is raised by about 60 % by converting these units into a single line CO2 stripping plant.

Stamicarbon has developed an improved HP Stripper design triggered by a higher than normal passive corrosion rate of heat exchanger (HEX) tubes in large HP Strippers (>2700 MTPD); and by the absence of iron oxide deposits in the HEX-tubes located in the center of the tube-sheet.

In urea plants a leak can easily occur due to the various corrosion phenomena and the challenge to realise a proper sealing between the applied materials. In case of a leak one encounters a challenging dilemma: Should one stop the plant immediately or is it possible to wait until the next scheduled shut-down?
